PMU AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS
At INKD Brow Studio, how you care for your skin after your procedure is just as important as the work done during your appointment. Proper aftercare will directly impact your healed results, pigment retention, and skin health.
The Healing Process: What to Expect Emotionally and Physically
It’s normal to go through a few emotional phases during healing. Here’s the reality:
You will love your brows at first. Then question them during the peeling phase. You may even panic and wonder if the color is gone. Then you will fall back in love once they are fully healed and settled. Trust the process. This is all part of how permanent makeup heals.
Immediate Aftercare Instructions
Cleansing:
Use the cleanser provided by INKD Brow Studio once per day. It comes in a gentle foam formula designed specifically for healing skin. Gently cleanse the treated area with clean fingertips and lukewarm water. Pat dry with a clean paper towel. Do not scrub, rub, or use any other cleansers, face washes, or exfoliants on the area.
Ointment Application Based on Skin Type
You will be applying a thin layer of ointment (Aquaphor or the healing ointment provided to you) until you are completely through the peeling or flaking phase. Once all visible flaking has finished, you may stop using both the cleanser and the ointment.
The amount you apply should be no more than half the size of a pea for each brow. Less is more. The goal is to lightly coat the skin just enough to keep it protected but not smothered.
Here’s how often to apply based on your skin type:
Oily Skin:
Apply one to two times a day depending on how quickly your skin absorbs the ointment.
Combination Skin:
Apply two to three times a day.
Dry Skin:
Apply three, possibly four times a day. Do not exceed this. The skin still needs time to breathe between applications.
Sensitive Skin:
Follow the same routine as oily skin. Apply once or twice a day depending on absorption and comfort.
Important Notes About Ointment Use:
Do not over-apply. Keeping the skin too moist can suffocate the area and negatively impact pigment retention. The goal is for the skin to absorb the ointment fully with time to breathe in between.
If your brows still feel wet or sticky after an application, that means you’ve applied too much.
Scabbing, Peeling, and The “Ghosting Phase”
Between days five to ten, expect your brows to become dry and flaky. This is normal.
You will likely experience the “Ghosting Phase”, where the color appears very light or even looks like it disappeared completely. This is temporary. Pigment will begin to resurface over the next two to four weeks as your skin continues to heal underneath. Do not pick, scratch, or peel at the flaking skin. Doing so may cause scarring, pigment loss, or uneven healed results.
Things to Avoid During Healing
When To Stop Aftercare
Once the peeling and flaking phase is fully complete and all old pigment has naturally shed, you are free to discontinue both the ointment and the cleanser.
Week 1: Brows appear bold, darker, and slightly swollen. Some scabbing or flaking may start toward the end of the week.
Week 2: Peeling phase begins. Brows may look patchy, uneven, or too light. This is normal!
Week 3–4: Color begins to resurface and soften. Shape and tone start to look more natural.
Week 6–8: Fully healed. True color is visible. Time for your perfecting touchup!
